The most common form, Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. sa group of diseases and mechanical abnormalities involving degradation of joints including articular cartilage and the subchondral bone next to it
CAUSE :-
• Exercise, including running in the absence of injury, has not been found to increase one's risk of developing osteoarthritis. Some doctors believe that mechanical stress on joints underlies all osteoarthritis, with many and varied sources of mechanical stress, including misalignments of bones caused by congenital or pathogenic causes; mechanical injury; being overweight; loss of strength in muscles supporting joints; and impairment of peripheral nerves, leading to sudden or uncoordinated movements that overstress joints.
• TREATMENT:- of Osteoarthritis consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. No matter the severity, conservative measures such as weight control, appropriate rest, exercise, and the use of mechanical support devices can be beneficial. In Osteoarthritis of the knees, knee braces can be helpful. Weight loss can relieve joint stress too and may delay progression although research supporting this is equivocal. |
