One of the secondary conditions that can occur and is associated with rheumatoid arthritis or osteomyelitis is amyloidosis. This condition can cause problems within the kidneys the liver, spleen and lymph nodes.
The reason why people with rheumatoid or osteomyelitis arthritis are more susceptible to amyloidosis is unknown, but it is known there is a link between the two. What is known is that it begins in the bone marrow, where platelets, antibodies, red and white blood cells are made by the body. When this condition occurs the antibodies are unable to breakdown, this can weaken the immune system. The antibodies then build up in the body and rather than taking their usual course in the body they leave the blood stream where they are deposited in the tissues, this causes abnormal functions in the body that can have an end result as damage to some of the bodies organs.
It is important to have amyloidosis diagnosed as a secondary condition of arthritis, because left undetected and untreated it can cause adverse affects on organs in the body including the liver, kidneys, heart and spleen.
