Bursitis Treatments

There are some treatments for bursitis to ease both the pain and the swelling, the treatment can depend on what type of bursitis the patient is suffering from. There are two different classes of bursitis and the treatment will depend on what part of the bursa sacs are inflamed and other symptoms that are being experienced.
One of the most common medications that are prescribed for taking care of the symptoms of this type of arthritic condition is antibiotics; these are prescribed to help take the infected fluids from the bursa sacs.  It is also possible during this point in the condition that the physician will want to take a sample of the fluids to have them diagnosed in a laboratory setting. There is also the possibility that the physician will suggest surgery in severe cases that are not responding to the antibiotics to remove the infected fluids from the bursa sacs.
NSAIDS are one of the classes of medications can be prescribed to treat the inflammation, which is what causes the pain associated with bursitis. These include medications like Celebrex, Naprosyn, Ibuprofen and Motrin.
Corticosteroids injections are used for patients that suffer from chronic bursitis and are able to reduce the symptoms. These injections are done at the sight of the inflamed bursa sac and are often used after other types of treatments have failed.
Elastic bandages are another type of treatment that can be used to relieve the pain from bursitis, this is a way to help immobilize the inflamed bursa sacs and add pressure that will help reduce swelling. This type of elastic bandage is usually an ace bandage that is self wrapped and works well on the elbow or the knee.

Ice packs can be something the physician will suggest trying to help reduce the swelling of the bursa sacs, which will also reduce the pain associated with bursitis.
