Gout: What can Cause this Form of Arthritis?

Gout is caused by an abnormal deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint cartilage and is considered the main cause of this arthritic condition. This occurs due to the diet that is filled with rich foods and wine, along with high blood pressure. The high levels of uric acid are also known as hyperuricemia which depends on the ability of the kidneys to rid the body of uric acid. This can be a hereditary condition that does not affect every member of the family.

Hyperuricemia is a condition in which the risk can varey from person to person and cause by different reasons. Genetics can play a role and dietary foods also can play a role, that increases the risk. There are approximately 10 percent of people with hyperuricemia that also are afflicted with gout, and 12 percent that are afflicted with gout due to the diet. Gout can be a complication of diabetes, hemolytic anemia, obesity, hypertension and renal disease, along with others.

Gout can play a major role in solid organ transplants and there have also been studies that show a relationship between lead poisoning and gout.
