Steroid injections for arthritis

 

The full form of steroids is corticosteroids. These are synthetic medicines and can help people suffering from arthritis.  They work in a similar like hormone cortisol secreted by the adrenal glands of the body. The process followed by the steroids to work involves reducing the inflammation as well as the activities of the immune system. These steroids are directly injected in to the joints of the patient of arthritis. All the arthritis patients cannot take steroids. Various factors like physical activity level, age, are taken for verification. The steroids are available in the market in different forms. All the forms differ from each other as far as their dissolution rate in the blood is concerned. The steroids are generally injected because this enables the doctors to induce the required amount of the drug in to the affected part in the body of the patient. If it will be given intravenously or orally, they will never be able to ensure the amount of drug reaching the affected area. The steroid injection given in the joints is tolerable than other injections recommended for arthritis. The effect of steroid injection in relieving the pain of arthritis has been recorded to be the fastest till now. However, steroid injection must not be given if the joint is affected by any kind of infection.
