Can stress cause arthritis?

Stress is definitely related to arthritis, and arthritis is related to stress, there is a reverse cause and effect relationship between these two conditions.
People having arthritis develop some kind of stress at certain points of time in their life. Furthermore, living with arthritis and dealing with the pain day and night leads to series of stressful events in one’s life. Chronic arthritis actually adds on the stress of fatigue, pain, depression, dependence, social life and the overall self-image.
When person is stressed, the body releases different chemicals into one’s bloodstream, which results in various physical changes. These physical changes add in the strength of the body and gives energy to prepare the person for the stressful events. When stress can be dealt with a positive attitude, it can repair damages and heal pain. However, when stress tends to build up and there is no way to release it, the body is negatively affected.

There is a vicious cycle that occurs in the connection between stress and arthritis. The difficulties of living with a painful condition like arthritis create stress. This results in muscle tension and pain along with further aggravation of the symptoms of arthritis. The aggravating symptoms lead to more stress and vice versa.
