Arthritis Treatment with Wintergreen

Wintergreen is one of the herbals that has been accepted as being a treatment for arthritis and other conditions by the American medical community since 1820. This botanical is known as Gaulteria procumbens and is known to have compounds that are able to relieve the pain of arthritis called methyl-salicylate.
Wintergreen is often found in many of the over the counter arthritis rubs as one of the active ingredients and is perfectly safe to use in this form.  There are some forms of wintergreen that can be toxic if used improperly. Wintergreen can be used in the form of a tea, by using the dried leaves steeped in hot water, however wintergreen oil should never be taken internally as it can be toxic.

The tea of wintergreen can be used as much as three times a day for weeks to relieve the pain of arthritis without side effects like many medications have and can be used in combination with medications without any type of drug interactions in most cases. The person that is taking medication should speak with their physician to ensure the compounds in wintergreen will not react with their medication.
